On Sunday morning, March 4, 1906, in Reality Hall on West North Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. B. F. Farrell, the founder and first pastor, presided over what is now known as the Mt. Paran Baptist Church.  The church was organized with 16 members.  This great church received its name as the result of a vision given to Dr. Farrell from the scripture Habakkuk 3:13,” God came from Teman, and the Holy one from Mt. Paran.  His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of His praise.”

Since our beginning, many years of growth has occurred, both numerically and spiritually, while serving and worshipping God. Through faithful service and devotion to our Heavenly Father, God led us from West North Street, to 12th and Missouri Street, to 34th and Boulevard Place, to a temporary site at Broad Ripple H.S. and to our present home at 4001 North Franklin Road. Mt Paran for 118 years has had five pastors and they are Dr. B. F. Farrell, Rev. C. Henry Bell, Rev. B. F. Sims, Rev. Fred League and currently our Senior Pastor is Rev. Dr. T. D. Robinson. It’s truly a blessing to worship and praise God in our present location since Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.

We are here today as a testament of God’s love and faithfulness to Mt. Paran as we continue to build His “City of HOPE.” HOPE, as conveyed by Pastor Robinson, is Helping Others Pursue Excellence. We praise the Lord for the vision God gave Pastor Robinson to relocate Mt Paran to the Far Eastside of Indianapolis to build the Lord a City of HOPE. Our Heavenly Father has remained faithful to His vision to the City of HOPE with the relocation of our Church Family to the new site, the construction of the Farrell Bell Senior Apartments and the commercial development project with Goodwill Industries to bring 200+ jobs to this community.

Building the City of HOPE

From a desire to address community needs and help improve the quality of life of neighbors, the City of HOPE vision was born in the hearts of the Mount Paran Baptist Church family to address the physical, social, economic, educational, and spiritual needs of the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area.

Mt. Paran has always been active in our Indianapolis community with the city-wide Mt Paran Shoes-for-Children Program. In addition, our church has made a difference in the lives of residents in this community with the Mt. Paran Square Apartments, a corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanities, a founding member of the Lawrence Township Hunger Coalition and community partner with the Cupboard of Lawrence Food Pantry.

We thank God for our past, we praise God for our present and we trust God for the future in our journey of faith, to build God His City of HOPE.
